Question

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. For the B&B, please get in touch. For the cottages, because we are contracted to English Country Cottages, we do not have a Book Now credit card button, so you need to phone or e-mail us to Book Now.  To confirm the booking, we normally ask for a bank transfer or cheque deposit (Sorry but deposit is non-refundable). If you prefer a bank transfer, please let us know and we will send you the details. If you want to pay in currency other than £sterling, please ask, and we have another option.

Question

When is Check-in Time?

Answer

Checking in time is usually about 5:00 p.m.. It is important you are aware that the rooms may not be ready before 5:00 p.m. - I am slow -, but you are always welcome to come into our greenhouse/garden room and sit down when you arrive earlier than 5:00 p.m..

Question

When is breakfast?

Answer

Earliest breakfast is 8:00 a.m., then 8:30 and 9:00.

Question

Lunch and Evening Meals for Walkers or Cyclists?

Answer

Sorry, no. The only remaining pub in the village, the Arncliffe Arms (01947 897555) is 3/4 mile away  (a 15 minute walk downhill and a 19- minute walk back uphill for a 79-year-old woman who is not a proper walker!), and for a variety of reasons (legal, practical, etc.), we cannot offer a lift to the pub. It's a good idea to bring a small torch or head torch for the walk back. Also, taxis are available for £15.00 to £30.00 each way (have to come from Whitby).

Question

Is Wi-Fi free?

Answer

Yes, free Wi-Fi for the house and cottages.

Question

We are doing the Coast-to-Coast. Do you take Coast-to-Coasters?

Answer

Yes, we are happy to take Coast-to-Coast walkers or bikers/cyclists.  I am currently editing the Printable Information for walkers and cyclists. please get in touch for current information.

Question

Packed Lunches?

Answer

Not at present. The Co-op at Grosmont level crossing (for North Yorkshire Moors Railway which is right on C-C route) has a great selection of sandwiches, snacks and drinks, and Coast-to-Coasters reach this before lunch.

Question

Laundry Facilities?

Answer

In the B&B we have a drying room (our boiler room) where you can hang wet clothes and put wet boots. We no longer do laundry for you. Each of our self-catering cottages has its own washer/dryer and an entryway for boots and jackets.

Question

Luggage carried to rooms?

Answer

Sorry, but we do not offer a porter service. We are too old!

Question

Dogs allowed?

Answer

Sorry, dogs not allowed in the house or the Hayloft. One dog of selected breeds is allowed in each of the two family-sized cottages, the Old Sheaf Store and the Threshing Barn, but these are generally let for 7 nights minimum during April through October, and Christmas and New Year weeks. However, we do have a newly cleaned and strawed stable dedicated for guests' dogs that are accustomed to staying outside.

Question

Pick-up service for Coast-to-Coast walkers?

Answer

Sorry, but as we are close enough to the walk (about 1/4 mile from War Memorial), we do not offer a pick-up service.

Question

Do you transfer luggage for walkers?

Answer

Sorry, no, but Brigantes and Sherpa Van do transfers along the Cleveland Way as well as the Coast-to-Coast Walk and Pack Horse along the Coast-to-Coast Walk. All three agencies are accustomed to delivering luggage to Red House Farm Glaisdale.

Many thanks for your interest and best wishes for a great stay or walk,
